artist statement

Art is my ministry, my meditation, my refuge.
Art is a feeling.

As a Chinese Canadian American artist, I regard my artworks as surrealistic contemplations on the human psyche and emotional connection. My aim is to challenge conventional beliefs about identity, race, belonging, spirituality, and femininity through the reinterpretation of traditional Asian art, folklore, and design motifs. Recurring images include female deities, fairy maidens, monsters, and mythological creatures who portray themes of love, innocence, anger, fear, sadness, and loss. Alternating between figurative and abstract brushwork, it is an otherworldly, far away land evoking the diminutive and delicate to the fiercely powerful and protective.
